What We Are
The young men in Troop 158 range in age from 11-17 years of age and live in Franklin Park, as well as other surrounding towns. Boy Scouts is different than Cub Scouts, as the Boy Scouts act in leadership roles under the guidance of the Scoutmaster, rather than the adults leading and directing the program, as happens in Cub Scouting. The Boy Scouts spend time working on advancement or enjoying a year-round camping program.
Fundraisers provide a way for the Boy Scouts to earn money for camping fees, equipment and also helps to pay for troop expenses, badges, supplies, etc. Fundraising opportunities include candy, popcorn and wreathes sales - these are optional yet highly encouraged.
Troop 158 is part of the Des Plaines Valley Council. We are proud to be one of the larger Boy Scout Troops in the area. We also have close to a 90% volunteer rate among our families. This can vary from becoming a merit badge counselor to chaperoning a camping trip, from driving to an outing to assisting with a fundraiser. Any and all parental help is appreciated. Parents are also encouraged to attend the monthly committee meetings held the 3rd Monday each month from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Franklin Park Community Center, 9560 Franklin Avenue.
